Trumpy Yachts
The most celebrated name in American yacht design of the early twentieth century.
In 1910 the Norwegian-born naval architect John Trumpy joined John H. Mathis to form the Mathis Yacht Building Company in Camden, New Jersey, building houseboats, tenders and yachts for wealthy American families. The yard became John Trumpy & Sons in 1943 and moved to Annapolis, Maryland, in 1947. One of its best-known boats, the 1925 yacht Sequoia, served as the Presidential yacht from 1933 to 1977.
Trumpy production ended in 1974, so every Trumpy on the market is a survivor of a long career. Provenance, survey and the quality of past restoration are what separate a good one from a great one.
