A 1987 Hatteras Motoryacht, built as a 72 and later stretched to 82 feet, with a wide-body salon, a big flybridge and room for eight aboard.
About this yacht
Sea Owl began life as a Hatteras 72 and was lengthened to 82 feet by Cable Marine in Fort Lauderdale. The extension gave her a longer profile and a large lazarette for storage. Her wide-body design opens up a big salon for dining and entertaining, and the flybridge seats a crowd, with a grill, refrigerator and wet bar up top.
Below are three staterooms and three heads, with crew quarters of their own. Twin Detroit Diesel 12V71 TI engines of 840 hp each were overhauled in 2011, with a top-end overhaul on the starboard engine in 2024. Her listing cites more than $300,000 in upgrades since 2009.
Why a Hatteras like this
Hatteras was building yachts of this size and scale long before most of today's builders, and the wide-body motoryachts of the 1980s are still admired for their volume and their solid fiberglass construction. An 82-footer with this much space aboard is rare, and extended hulls like hers are even rarer.
