   # Hatteras Yachts

Big, solid, and built for open water: the boats that defined the American family cruiser.

Hatteras began in 1959, when a group of investors that included textile manufacturer Willis Slane hired naval architect Jack Hargrave to design a yacht that could handle the waters off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. The result, the 41 Convertible, was the first production yacht of its size built in fiberglass. The company is still building boats today in New Bern, North Carolina.

The Hatteras motor yachts we feature here trade the sportfisherman's tower for volume: wide salons, full galleys and multiple staterooms, in hulls designed to be lived on and to run all day without fuss. On a boat this age, condition, engine hours and maintenance history matter more than the year on the transom.

Not sure what to look for? That is what we do. [Tell us the Hatteras you are after](https://gentlemensyachts.com/find-my-yacht) and we will search for you as your buyer's agent.
